3 Natural Ways To Fight Gum Disease

Gum disease is painful and it can make your gums look unsightly. However, even if you decide to go to the dentist to take care of this problem there are still a few things you can do at home to help to curb the condition. Here are some very effective strategies for fighting gum disease.

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling pulls toxins out of the mouth and it is very easy to do. You will need some type of organic oil, such as olive oil or coconut oil. Use a tablespoon of the oil and swish it around in your mouth for fifteen minutes. Swishing the oil around in your mouth activates enzymes that pull toxins out of the mouth while the fats that are in the oil mixes with the saliva and removes toxins from it. Once the fifteen minutes have passed you should spit out the oil and rinse your mouth with water. It is best to do oil pulling before you have eaten, so it is a good idea to develop a routine of oil pulling as soon as you wake up in the morning.

Garlic And Turmeric Paste

Garlic and turmeric are filled with antibacterial compounds and are a great choice for the removal of bacteria that cause gum disease. You can create a garlic and turmeric paste for fighting gum disease by  crushing two cloves of garlic and adding a tablespoon of turmeric powder. Mix it together and add a drop of peppermint oil. Use the paste in the same way that you would use toothpaste.

Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera gel is great for healing gums. If it is possible you should try to get the plant and extract the gel yourself to ensure that it is completely organic. However, if this is not possible the best alternative is to buy the gel at a health store. Spread the aloe vera gel all over your gum and leave it there for at least five minutes. Try not to swallow too much, since the gel tends to be quite bitter. After five minutes have passed, rinse out your mouth thoroughly with water.

While each of the treatments listed above are great to use while suffering from gum disease, these treatments are also good for preventing gum disease in the first place. Once you have cured your gum disease you should continue to use them at least twice per week to ensure that your gums stay healthy and disease free.
